Born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee, my musical experience started at home with my mother. My mother, Sue Carter, is an exceptional jazz pianist and singer. I grew up singing and playing the piano with her at home and in church. It is with her that I learned true rhythm, soul, and harmony. I will always be truly grateful.
My experience with the violin started in the public school where I flourished throughout my middle and high school years leading the violin sections. It was at this time, I was also exposed to Suzuki instruction.
My collegiate training was with a true master, Dr. Carolyn Stuart, at the University of South Florida. There I earned my Bachelor of Fine Art & Master of Music degrees specializing in violin performance. The performance degree focuses on solo, chamber, and orchestral playing. Throughout those years, I also pursued various teaching and specialty programs to enrich my performance education. Some of those programs include:
Ronda Cole 2007
Martha Shackford 2004
Starling-Delay Symposium at Juilliard for violin teachers 2006
Killington Summer Music Festival 2003 & 2005
It was at these various programs that I observed masterclasses with such string professional masters such as:
Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, Rhonda Rider, Chin Kim, Katie Lansdale, Janice Martin, Kevin Lawrence, Scott Kluksdahl, David Ying, Carol Rodland, Sheila Browne, Glenn Dicterow, Cornelia Heard, Carolyn Huebl, the Julliard faculty, and Mark O'Conner--fiddling great.
